I’ve just come across this great post about the pros and cons of various different types of kitchen worktops. Although the article has been around for a while, it still provides a lot of solid information that should help you when you are choosing your worktops.
You can read the full article on the Channel 4 website here. It discusses wood worktops, granite worktops, stainless steel worktops and composite stone worktops, and also provides details on how to look after and clean the different kitchen work surfaces.
I particulalrly liked this paragraph:
Looks may score highly when choosing a kitchen worktop, but think about the type of use it’s going to get, and whether the material is up to the job. Ideally, it needs to be stain and heat-resistant, easy to clean, extremely durable and reasonably priced – and that’s just for starters. You won’t find a worktop that ticks all these boxes, so consider what your priorities are, and what you’re prepared to compromise on.
